Many colleges around the country are being criticized for spending too much money on athletics, including right here in Washtenaw County. A recent sports contract will bring in millions to one institution.
As of August 1, Nike will be the official footwear, apparel, and equipment provider for the University of Michigan Wolverines. It's an agreement valued at $173.8 million.
Public relations expert Don Tanner from Tanner Friedman says it's a good decision by the athletic department.
"A deal like this helps to fray those costs in those sports departments, especially football and basketball."
Adidas is the current provider.
