Ypsilanti Township is encouraging residents to properly dispose of their old tires to not harm the environment.

The township's compost site on East Clark Road is accepting used tires at no charge, but they still have to be on the rim.

Jeffrey Allen, director of residential services for the township, says people continue to illegally dump tires.  The township's ordinance department found a home full of old tires.

There are several sites in Washtenaw County where you can drop-off used tires.  For a list click here.
