Red Cross Begins Helping Ypsilanti Families Recover After Lightning Strike

WEMU

Red Cross volunteers are helping residents of an Ypsilanti apartment complex find housing after a fire.

Officials say the fire caused extensive damage to twelve units at the Oak Ridge apartments, estimating a quarter of a million dollars in losses.

Armando Falcon is the Disaster Program Manager for Southeast Michigan Red Cross. He says, “We have provided immediate financial assistance that they can use to replace food and clothing, things like that.”

34 individuals lost their home in the fire.  Falcon says Red Cross volunteers will help those affected find new housing in the coming weeks.
