Thousands of students across the country will walk out of school today, which marks the 19th anniversary of the Columbine school shooting.  Students in Washtenaw County will participate.

At 10 AM, students from Slauson Middle School, as well as Skyline and Pioneer High Schools, will join the movement to demand political action to protect students from gun violence.

Ann Arbor Public Schools spokesperson Andrew Cluley says the district doesn't expect many students to participate.

"Slauson Middle School is the only middle school that we've heard that students are going to do this. They're going to step out into the hallway, and, if they want to, participate in this moment of silence."

Cluley added that students will not face penalties as long as they stay on school property.

Ypsilanti Community Schools also doesn't expect many of their students to take part in the walkout.
