A group of students at Eastern Michigan University are helping educate young voters about the candidates and ballot issues before the primary polls open tomorrow.
Eastern Michigan University junior Diamond Clay says younger voters don’t need to be convinced that their vote matters. What they need is reliable information about the candidates without all the rhetoric.
Clay is president of Detroit Does Well, a student volunteer group at EMU.
“A lot of people are aware that they need to be voting, but the fear of not knowing who to vote for stops them. So we’re trying to eliminate that fear [and] let them know who’s running for office and make sure they’re confident in who they choose.”
Detroit Does Well is hosting a voter education session at EMU tonight at 6 PM. Representatives of many of the candidates on tomorrow’s Michigan Presidential Primary ballot will be also be on hand to answer questions from the audience.
