The college experience began today for over 10,000 students who moved into the dorms at the University of Michigan.
Nearly 800 student volunteers helped incoming students and their parents move into residence halls such as Mary Markley and Alice Lloyd. Large blue carts were used to make it easier to move microwaves, bedding, school supplies and anything else a college student might need during the semester.
Many freshmen told WEMU they were excited to start a new adventure, but they will miss their family and pets. Thanks to productive planning by the university's housing department, no major traffic jams were experienced in the area by the dorms.
For one freshman student, Riley Olson, the move was bittersweet. "I'm super excited now, but on the way here I cried a little bit. I had to say goodbye to my dog and everything."
Another student, Sam said he was grateful to have his parents with him. "It's a bit of a hassle, but everyone has to do it. It's just part of moving in," as his parent moved most of his gear. Lucky Sam.
