University of Michigan students and staff gathered in the school's Union ballroom to celebrate retiring president Mary Sue Coleman.
The Ann Arbor News and Detroit Free Press report that actor and Michigan-native Jeff Daniels served as master of ceremonies of Friday's event. Daniels grew up Chelsea, just outside Ann Arbor.
The 70-year-old Coleman is stepping down this summer after 12 years as school president. University regents in January named Brown University Provost Mark Schlissel as the 14th person to lead the Ann Arbor school.
Coleman said Friday she has "enjoyed every moment of being 13" and is confident that Schlissel "will take the university "to new heights."
