A one-mill tax renewal and Headlee override request from Washtenaw Community College won overwhelming voter approval in yesterday's election. The measure passed with more than 77% approval. 89.1 WEMU's Lisa Barry has details.
The tax that was approved by area voters Tuesday will allow Washtenaw Community College to levy one mill for operating purposes for ten years. The tax is expected to generate $17.5 million for the college in its first year of renewal in 2021. That represents more than 15 percent of the college's operating budget. The millage was previously approved by voters in 2008. It will cost the owner of a home valued at $200,000 about $100 a year.
