With even colder weather upon us, local government officials are offering tips on what to do to stay warm-and out of danger-during this cold snap.
The City of Ann Arbor shared Red Cross cold weather tips on its Facebook page advising people to "layer up" and not forget furry friends and bring pets indoors.
They also reminded homeowners about the "three feet rule" when using a space heater. If you are using a space heater, place it on a level, hard surface and keep anything flammable at least three feet away - things such as paper, clothing, bedding, curtains or rugs.
The stretch of cold weather is expected to continue through the end of the week, and the National Weather Service says frostbite can occur to exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
