Washtenaw County Homeless Getting Extended Aid

This week usually marks the seasonal end of the warming centers and rotating shelters in Washtenaw County, but, as a result of the coronavirus crisis, Washtenaw County has increased resources for the homeless community.

Local hotels are being used to house the homeless during the pandemic.  In addition to shelter, they're also being provided with three meals a day.  Susan Cerniglia is a spokesperson for the Washtenaw County Health Department and explains why the emergency shelter is needed.

"We know that our homeless population is one of our more vulnerable populations, in part because of the fact their in more congregate settings and closer space with people"

The number of people allowed to stay at the Delonis Center in Ann Arbor has also been reduced to allow for social distancing.
