With less than a month before most students in Washtenaw County go back to school, public health officials recommend parents to get their children immunized.

The State of Michigan requires all children to be immunized by the first day of school or they may be asked to go home. But, as Immunization Coordinator for Washtenaw County Christina Karpinski says, that could be handled differently from school to school.

"It's really the school's decision, so it's kind of hard to say what each school is going to do. We're trying to get all the schools on the same page, but that hasn't happened yet," Christina added.

Parents who don't want their children immunized have to make an appointment with the Health Department to sign a waiver.
