Washtenaw County Receives Top 10 Health Ranking For 2016

Creative Commons

Washtenaw County is the seventh healthiest  in Michigan, according to a national survey by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Washtenaw ranked seventh overall, but took first in Michigan in the health factors category, due in part to the high amount of medical clinics in the Ann Arbor area.

One thing the county did not do well in is income inequality.  It ranked near the end of the list, at 80 out of Michigan’s 83 counties.

Ellen Rabinowitz is with the WashtenawCounty Public Health Department.  She says the department plans to address the problem.  “It would entail engaging with community members and residents to really shape a vision for health and for equity in our community,” Rabinowitz says.

Overall, Washtenaw moved up to seventh in the state for residents’ quality and length of life.
