Working To Make Michigan's Lakeshores Safer

miseagrant.umich.edu

If a trip to one of Michigan's beautiful lakeshores is part of your summer plans, you should know about an organization that's working to make your trip safer.

As part of Rip Current Awareness week, the Michigan Sea Grant is installing beach safety kits at 10 public beaches along Lake Michigan.

The kits contain life preservers, weighted ropes, and other safety tools. Communications and Education Services Director Elizabeth LaPorte says always pay attention to posted warning signs and flags when going to the beach, and always be mindful of rip currents, breaking waves and high winds.
