Ypsilanti’s city councilwill vote on a resolution tonight to create a housing expenditure program for residents who need financial assistance during the coronavirus pandemic.

The city is considering partnering with Washtenaw County’s “Barrier Busters," a social service group that already provides housing assistance to local residents.  Council Member Annie Somerville from the third ward says the city has $75,000 in its emergency housing fund that could be distributed to Ypsilanti residents through the group.

"This fund would also be available to folks who are undocumented. So, it’s a really great resource for people who are being left out of those stimulus checks and other unemployment."

The funds would pay for rent, mortgage, and utility bills.
