Ypsilanti Community Schools 'Count Day' Enrollment Down

ycschools.us

Enrollment in Ypsilanti Community Schools is down from a year ago, but that does not come as a surprise to district administrators.

Superintendent Laura Lisiscki  says count day enrollment came in at about 4,300 students, right around what the district budgeted for.

That's compared to 4,542 students last year.

Lisiscki expects this year's numbers to go up once adult education and preschool numbers are added.

"We know we still have a little bit of an implementation dip, but that's to be expected with just being just year two," Lisiscki says. "We know that with the programs that we're offering, and with the many opportunities that we have for our students, that we will hopefully see our district grow a little bit each year."

In the district's first year in existence last year, the early count day enrollment was about 42-hundred.  That grew by several hundred after the final numbers came in.

The fall count day numbers represent 90 percent of a school district's state funding.  A count in February makes up the other 10 percent.
