Ypsilanti’s city councilwill discuss possible road closures Tuesday night that would create more space for businesses impacted by COVID-19.
The city is concerned that social distancing guidelines for indoor seating at local restaurants and bars would limit customer capacity to about 25% when they reopen. Council Member Steve Wilcoxen from the second ward says, if street closures are allowed, businesses could create and expand outdoor seating.
Council Member Wilcoxen: Certain restaurants would be able to affect that change, and the most obvious thing would be to take over parking spaces directly in front of them.
Wilcoxen says that, while the city wants to offer additional space for businesses, they also don’t want to create parking problems.
