Ypsilanti Residents Back City Council's Support Of Marriage Equality

Bob Eccles

Ypsilanti City Council has adopted a resolution authorizing a "friend of the court" brief to be filed on the city's behalf in the DeBoer versus Snyder case that seeks to overturn Michigan's ban on same-sex marriage, and it appears city residents approve.

Kim Brown says she doesn't discriminate.

"Because you don't want anybody looking at you and judging you on something different that you do," she said.

Ray Sweeney applauds council's action.

"I support it, so the more the merrier. If we can get more people on board, I'm for that."

Council voted five-to-one on the measure, with Mayor Pro Tem Lois Richardson voting "no".  She said she'd rather let the issue go through the legal process.

Ann Arbor City Council approved a similar measure this week.
