Pipeline Advisory Board Sees Tunnel Plan

Governor Snyder’s office says a ruling by the US Coast Guard will better protect the Great Lakes from oil spills.

The governor wants to make sure state departments and local agencies can respond to areas contaminated with PFAS chemicals as quickly as possible.  The industrial chemicals have been found in more than 30 locations across the state.  Governor Rick Snyder has issued a directive calling on state departments and agencies to create a readiness and response plan.

Governor Rick Snyder has put together a team he says will help fix the state Child Protective Services program.  This comes after a state audit revealed CPS failed to follow a plethora of state requirements.

Governor Rick Snyder has approved a six-month ban on ships dropping anchor in the Straits of Mackinac.  It’s a response to a mishap in April that caused a mineral oil spill and damage to Enbridge Line 5.

Governor Rick Snyder has called for an assessment on water bills to help pay for fixing pipes and other infrastructure.  A plan rolled out Thursday would add a dollar every year to most water bills for five years.

Governor Rick Snyder kicked off his week of daily announcements Monday with a focus on broadband internet access.  During the State of the State, Snyder said he would make a new announcement about infrastructure and the environment every day this week.

Governor Rick Snyder is boosting the position of Michigan chief medical executive to his official inner circle.  The governor says he wants to streamline how critical public health information reaches him.  That was one of the problems identified by a task force that looked into how the Flint water crisis occurred.

Governor Rick Snyder is asking for $1.2 million to pay for outside legal counsel to help with the administration’s response to the Flint water crisis.  


State lawmakers have left Lansing for the holidays and won’t return until January 8th. But they already have a long list of things to do heading into 2014.  One of the big jobs they’ll face will be finding money to improve the state’s roads and infrastructure. 

  

Early this year, Governor Rick Snyder urged lawmakers to boost funding for roads by more than a billion dollars. But Snyder’s idea to raise the state’s gas tax and vehicle registration fees never won enough support in the Legislature – and neither did any other proposal.
