The number of COVID-19 cases in Washtenaw County have been trending up for awhile and have gotten worse in the past couple of weeks, according to Susan Ringler-Cerniglia, communications and health promotion administrator for the Washtenaw County Public Health Department. 

She talks to WEMU's Lisa Barry about the latest involving the pandemic in the local community.

As cases of the COVID-19 virus decline around the country, Michigan remains one of a handful of states continuing to see a surge in the number of cases.

All across Michigan, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to surge. More cases and hospitalizations have been reported, while hospital staff members are leaving in protest of vaccine mandates. As the colder months are upon us, state health departments need to adapt. Washtenaw County Health Department spokesperson Susan Ringler-Cerniglia gives a local perspective on these developments with WEMU's David Fair.

On Tuesday, the state of Michigan recorded a record number of newly confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 59 fatalities.  Washtenaw County's caseload is surging as well.  WEMU's David Fair checked in with Washtenaw County Health Department spokesperson Susan Cerniglia to discuss the coronavirus surge, an opportunity for a cost-free flu vaccination, and how the uninsured can access help to becoming enrolled in a health plan.

Many of Governor Gretchen Whitmer's executive orders were struck down by the Michigan Supreme Court on Friday.  That created a great deal of uncertainty among residents and businesses about COVID-19 protocol and regulations.  For clarification, the Washtenaw County Health Department issued four orders of its own on Monday.  Health Department spokesperson Susan Cerniglia joined WEMU's David Fair to further explain the county response.
