From outdoor museum tours to indoor Zoom art creations, there will be a number of opportunities provided by what is being called "UMMA + Chill."  WEMU's Lisa Barry talks with Mark Tucker, founder and creative director of FestiFools and FoolMoon, about what he will be doing as part of the University of Michigan Museum of Art event.

This would have been the 14th year artists, musicians, and local politicians paraded through the streets of downtown Ann Arbor amidst an array of giant, colorful, paper mache expressions.  But this year, due to social distancing to stop the spread of COVID-19, the in-person event scheduled for April 5th will not be taking place.

WEMU's Lisa Barry talks with the founder of FestiFools and FoolMoon, Mark Tucker, about another plan he has come up with to have a "Virtual FestiFools," so people have something to watch on their own.

It's not easy to describe exactly what FestiFools and FOOLmoon, which take place each spring in Ann Arbor, are all about.  89.1 WEMU's Lisa Barry talks with artist and organizer Mark Tucker and University of Michigan artist-in-residence Lavinia Hanachiuc about the annual public arts event coming up in early April.

A new light-up street party called "ypsiGLOW" will be taking place in downtown Ypsilanti on October 27th.

The creators of Festifools and FoolMoon helped create the glowout block party for every age.

I spoke with Shary Brown, the president of Wonderfool Productions, and Adriana Zardus, the company's production coordinator, about how this event is intended to get the community involved on another level where people are creating the event themselves.

University of Michigan students have been hard at work the last six weeks in a studio at the back of the university’s public safety building preparing for Ann Arbor’s foolish weekend.  Most of the large puppets that are the heart of Sunday’s Festifools come from students most of who aren’t art students.

Expect plenty of foolishness in Ann Arbor this weekend, with FoolMoon Friday night, and Festifools taking over Main Street Sunday afternoon.  Several hundred illuminated decorations are expected to be part of the FoolMoon processionals Friday evening around eight.
