No longer taught in many public schools, cursive writing has become more rare.  In fact, writing by hand in general is declining as more people prefer the speed and convenience of computers and smartphones.  There's a local handwriting expert who still teaches cursive writing in Ann Arbor and has trained with one of the world's top experts on penmanship, living in Brighton, Michigan. WEMU's Lisa Barry talks with Hong Nguyen and Michigan custom penmaker Dale Penkala about the pen community and the enthusiasm for writing by hand.

1,4-Dioxane is a suspected human carcinogen and a contaminant of “emerging concern” for the EPA.  It has been found in over a thousand public water supplies across the country, including thirty in Michigan.  Will those who’ve been exposed to Ann Arbor’s contaminated groundwater develop health issues?  It’s a question that may be of concern far beyond our borders, and the focus of our report in "The Green Room." 


Honey Creek Watershed Management Plan Released

The Huron River Watershed Council has released a watershed management plan for Honey Creek in Scio Township.  The state has labeled the Huron River tributary as "impaired" due to high levels of bacteria.
