As we move closer to a vaccine to combat COVID-19, local hospitals continue to experience an increase in cases.  WEMU’s Lisa Barry talks to Michigan Medicine infectious disease specialist Dr. Payal Patel, who says public health precautions still need to be closely followed as they near capacity in the hospital with COVID cases.

Even with good health insurance, it costs most people more that $1,000 for a hospital stay.  A new local study looks at the rising cost of what patients are paying for hospital treatments.

This winter's flu outbreak has prompted three Grand Rapids hospitals to ask visitors who are sick to go home and come back when they're well.  There are no such restrictions in place locally so far.  Hear more from WEMU's Bob Eccles.

The holidays are upon us, and most of us are making plans to celebrate with family and friends. For those afflicted with illness it can be  difficult to tap in to the sentiment of the season. However, at the University of Michigan Hospitals, there is a concerted effort to give the patients some holiday spirit. With music as a centerpiece, many patients are not only smiling, but they're also healing.
