Ken Magee

Washtenaw County Sheriff Jerry Clayton will not face a Republican challenger in November after winning his Democratic primary race on Tuesday.  Sheriff Clayton joined WEMU's David Fair to discuss the win and the forward-looking plans to address law enforcement and community relations. 


For a second time, Washtenaw County Sheriff, Jerry Clayton, has fended off a challenge from longtime law enforcement professional, Ken Magee. In Tuesday's Democratic primary race, Clayton garnered over 75-percent of the vote. Clayton has no Republican opposition in November. 

In the November, 2016 general election, Magee ran as a Republican against Clayton and lost. Clayton was first elected Sheriff in November, 2008.

Tuesday is primary election day.  Incumbent Washtenaw County Sheriff Jerry Clayton is being challenged in the Democratic primary by Ken Magee.  Magee has a long career in law enforcement, including a stint as Chief of Police at the University of Michigan.  Magee joined WEMU's David Fair to discuss his candidacy and changes he would like to make, if elected.
