It began as a quest for knowledge and understanding of the issues surrounding the controversial Enbridge 'Line 5' that runs through the Straits of Mackinac.  With the release of the 2nd part of his documentary on the subject, Ann Arbor's Barton Bund contends that a cause for concern has become a need for alarm.  In this week's "Issues of the Environment," Bund discusses 'Line 5-Part 2: Violation of Public Trust."

State officials say they’re growing increasingly frustrated as Enbridge Energy reports new spots where Line Five has exposed metal.  Line Five runs beneath the Straits of Mackinac between lakes Huron and Michigan.

There’s a vote today in Chicago by the Great Lakes states on whether Waukesha-Wisconsin will be allowed to divert millions of gallons of water from Lake Michigan.  


Dr. David Schwab, Research Scientist for the UM Graham Sustainability Institute Water Center, discusses his latest findings about the extensive spills that will happen if Line 5 in the Straits of Mackinac ruptures and how that oil would spread through the Great Lakes.

The mayor of Waukesha, Wisconsin made a stop in Lansing yesterday to meet with state environmental officials.  It’s part of an effort to win support for his city’s request for a large water diversion from Lake Michigan.

The state has extended the deadline for companies to bid on work studying of Enbridge Line 5.  That’s the oil and gas pipeline that runs under the Mackinac straits.

State Attorney General Bill Schuette has sent a letter to Great Lakes governors challenging a proposal to allow the Wisconsin city of Waukesha to withdraw water from Lake Michigan.
