In this week's "Cinema Chat," WEMU's David Fair and Michigan Theater Foundation executive director Russ Collins discuss the celebration surrounding the  79th Anniversary of the State Theatre in Ann Arbor and all of the Oscar-nominated films playing downtown.  Plus, they welcome Ann Arbor Film Festival executive director Leslie Raymond to discuss this year's virtual event that begins next week!

For 58 years, the Ann Arbor Film Festival has traditionally invited people to pack into Ann Arbor film houses to watch and discuss films made by filmmakers from all over the world.  The 2020 version of the festival was anything but traditional, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.  Leslie Raymond, director of the festival, joins Deb Polich and David Fair to give her first-person account of the 2020 festival experience on this week’s edition of "creative:impact."

The Ann Arbor Film Festival (AAFF) was scheduled to open to the public later this month.  However, in response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the festival has had to make significant changes.  AAFF executive director Leslie Raymond joins WEMU's David Fair for a conversation about these changes, which include shifting the festival to an online format.
