The 7th Congressional District in Michigan includes seven counties, including western Washtenaw County.  Republican Tim Walberg, who is currently in his sixth term in Congress, is being challenged for the third time by Democrat Gretchen Driskell, who served two terms in the state House and as the city of Saline's first female mayor for 14 years.  WEMU's Lisa Barry reached out to both candidates to talk about the election.  Only Driskell responded and talks about why she decided to run again and what issues she believes need addressing in Congress.

The cost of prescription drugs and health care is going up and, for many, is already out of reach.  53rd District State Representative Yousef Rabhi and U.S. Representative Debbie Dingell will host a public forum tonight to discuss what is being done in Lansing and Washington to address these issues.  Rabhi joined WEMU's David Fair to talk about what to expect for the upcoming forum.

Democrats in Lansing want to stop prescription drug price hikes in Michigan. 

Michigan is updating what state officials call a useful tool for fighting the opioid epidemic.  The problematic state drug monitoring program has gotten a significant facelift.  The system is used primarily by law enforcement and doctors to flag potential prescription drug abuse and better treat patients.  

Recovering from addictions such as alcohol and drugs can be difficult during the holiday season.  But there are steps you can take to get through it successfully. 

Being a Good Samaritan in desperate times, will no longer land Michigan youngsters in jail. 

“This allows immunity for people under 21 if there is a medical emergency to get help. So, I think this is something that can save lives.”
