The City of Ann Arbor continues to be one of the very few places you can purchase recreational marijuana in Michigan.  89.1 WEMU's Jorge Avellan visited one of the local dispensaries and has the story.

The Ann Arbor Ypsilanti Regional Chamber hosted a discussion Wednesday on what local municipalities plan to do when it comes to the sale of recreational marijuana.  89.1 WEMU's Jorge Avellan attended the event at Weber's in Ann Arbor and has the story.

Ypsilanti Township

Ypsilanti Township has joined over 300 communities in Michigan that have opted out of the Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marihuana Act.  That’s the new law that will allow recreational marijuana dispensaries to operate across the state.  89.1 WEMU’s Jorge Avellan tells us why the township took this action and if it’s permanent.

As of right now, Michigan is the first state in the Midwest to allow recreational or personal use of marijuana - not just for medical purposes.

It was approved in a statewide ballot proposal last month.

Eastern Michigan University sent out an e-mail Wednesday to students and employees reminding them that the use of marijuana on campus is still prohibited.  The message was sent after voters in Michigan approved Proposal 1 that legalizes the recreational use of marijuana.
