Governor Rick Snyder says President Trump has opened a “much-needed” national conversation on immigration with his order that limits travel from seven majority-Muslim nations.

As home to one of the nation’s largest populations of Middle Eastern immigrants, the Detroit area is a natural destination for refugees fleeing violence in places like Syria.  But the leader of the largely suburban county that neighbors the city has called for a stop to refugee resettlements and has threatened to go court.  That has become a hot issue in the race for Oakland County executive.

Governor Rick Snyder was the first governor in the nation to speak out on refugees following last week’s terrorist attacks in Paris and Beirut.  And he may have come to regret it as he tries to clarify his position vis a vis what a lot of the nation’s other Republican governors are saying about refugees and immigration.  Rick Pluta explains.
