EMU Increases Tution; Adds Bond Issue

By Andrew Cluley

Ypsilanti, MI – Eastern Michigan University's Board of Regents has approved a 13-point-five percent tuition increase for the new school year. Four percent of that increase is dedicated to repay bonds that will be sold to make improvements to classroom facilities.
President John Fallon says the university is trying to reach the difficult balance of affordability and improving the academic experience, while state funding to EMU continues to decrease.
Regent Joseph Antonini says EMU's strong bond rating makes this the time to get started on long-delayed capital improvements, especially in the Mark Jefferson and Pray-Harrold classroom buildings.
In addition to the tuition increase, the Regents also approved a four-point-five percent increase in room and board rates.
