Some Ann Arbor bars did more business by noon today than they do on a typical Monday, as the city celebrates Saint Patrick’s Day.
There was a line outside the door when Conor O’Neills opened on Main Street this morning. Manager Caroline Kaganov notes it’s a holiday for everyone, even if it’s not celebrated in the U-S the same as in Ireland. She says in Ireland they attend mass, go to pray and eat corned beef and cabbage. She says today however everyone is a little bit Irish and nobody throws a party like the Irish. University of Michigan student Phillip Daugherty got up at 6:15 in the morning to begin celebrating his Irish heritage. He thinks it's an amazing day when everyone can celebrate.
Conor O’Neills has had live music for the last several days to give people a chance to celebrate early if work is preventing them from getting out today.
On South University staff at Good Time Charley's say the crowds were decent in the morning, but really started growing in the early afternoon as University of Michigan students finished there classes, or decided to skip afternoon ones.
