Ypsilanti Community Schools is getting a $1,000,000 grant to help prepare students for careers in science, technology, enginnering and math.

Superintendent Scott Menzel said the money from the U.S. Department of Education's Investing in Innovation program will go toward professional development and support for teachers and curriculum "to help ensure that students in districts that have high poverty and have diverse student populations are able to have students more successful in STEM curriculum and ultimately in STEM careers.".

The aim of the five-year grant is to have 90 percent of students earn college credit before granduating high school, with a focus on low-income students and students underrepresented in STEM fields.
