Blues fans and those that want a unique look at life in Mississippi need look no further than Ann Arbor's North University this week. Vibrant colors pop out of the dark backgrounds, bringing to life the feeling of the blues and the south.
It's H.C. Porter's booth in the Ann Arbor Street Fair. Porter has been bringing her work from Mississippi to Ann Arbor for about 20 years. She says, "My work is always based on my photograph. I silk screen that image and then I hand paint back on top of it. So it's lots of layers of bright colors back in on top of a high contrast kind of graphic image."
Porter has color reproductions of her three year effort to preserve the history of 30 Mississippi Blues legends at their homes. Her booth also includes some original pieces focused on gulf coast residents after Hurricane Katrina.
