Meet The Staff - Jeremy Baldwin
Jeremy Baldwin is another man of few words on the WEMU staff. That just leaves him more time to listen to great music and share it with you every Saturday during The Roots Music Project. His passion for discovering new tunes and sharing them with you is what you support when you give to WEMU. Let's learn a little about what makes him tick, a few words at a time.
Position (and other jobs you've had here if applicable): Host, The Roots Music Project
Hometown: Oak Park, IL
College/University: Loyola University Chicago
Major: Political Science
Favorite WEMU show(s): The Sunday Best, All Things Considered
What drew me to WEMU: Music of course, but also integrity and independence.
What I do daily at work: I listen to lots of music and try to figure out the best and most creative ways to present it to you.
Favorite place to eat: I am generally a pretty big fan of The Wurst Bar's rotating "Special Of the Day"
The one song that is stuck in my head: Frankenstein by the Edgar Winter Group has been on replay in my head for at least 20 years. I have learned to live with it.
The album I think people need to hear: Time Out Of Mind by Bob Dylan
Favorite place to shop: Encore Records in Ann Arbor
Favorite vacation destination: My vacations are usually to a music festivals in the South. My favorites are probably Merlefest in North Carolina, Red Wing Roots in Virginia and Muddy Roots in Tennessee.
Favorite person to follow on Twitter/Tumblr/Instagram/Facebook: Robyn Hitchcock
The last film I saw: Mavis! HBO documentary about Mavis Staples.
Most memorable moment at WEMU thus far: I love having live musical guests in the studio like Jim Lauderdale, John Doe and others.
I love public radio because: It has different priorities than commercial media. It can concentrate on music for the sake of music. It is beholden to nobody but the public.
