Ann Arbor Public Schools To Host Public Hearing On District Budget

Ann Arbor Public Schools

The Ann Arbor Public Schools Board of Education will meet tonight to discuss the 2016-2017 school year general fund budget.

A public hearingwill be held to discuss the $215 million budget.  As of now, it does not include cuts and recommends hiring more teachers as student enrollment is expected to increase.  School board secretary Andy Thomas says some programs may receive more funding to improve student achievement, but it's not a done deal.

"There's a possibility that we'd like to focus our attention on middle schools and, particularly, on students who are struggling in math."

Another big topic at the meeting will be water safety.  Results from a study that tested the water quality at all district schools will be presented to the board.  The district requested the testing as a result of the Flint water crisis.
