Heather Neff

Dr. Heather Neff, Director of the EMU McNair Scholars program and Professor of English

In light of the recent unrest being felt at college campuses all over the country, Eastern Michigan University is having an event featuring several speakers to address the current campus climate.  The goal is to create a culture that embraces diversity and social justice.
I spoke to Dr. Heather Neff, director of the McNair scholars program and EMU professor of English, about what her message will be.
She says it's important for students to not become estranged from their studies because education is fundamental to everything.

Neff added, "the saddest thing about several incidents of racist graffiti found in recent months on the EMU campus is that it makes students feel like they don't belong at the university, and it takes away from their sense of security and sense of welcome."

She explained it's also important for all students to stay in school, go to class, and stay invested.
