Ernestine Ruben, or "Ernie" as she prefers to be called, toured the Willow Run Industrial Complex a few years ago in Ypsilanti Township and took a series of pictures. The plant was designed and built by her grandfather, famed architect Albert Kahn. Those pictures are now on display at the University of Michigan Art Museum in an exhibit called"Mobilizing Memory."
Lisa Barry recently had a chance to tour the exhibit with the 86 year-old artist, and she explains what she was trying to capture.
The photography exhibit is also featured in an original film at UMMA co-created by Ruben and video artist Seth Bernstein and featuring an original score by award-winning composer Stephen Hartke, which is also being shown at UMMA in Ann Arbor.
The exhibit is scheduled to run through August 20th.
