EMU Responds To Declining Enrollment At Michigan's Public Universities

Eastern Michigan University

Enrollment at many of Michigan's public universities is down.

According to new data from the Associated Press, overall enrollment decreased last year by about 1.4 percent.

The number of people enrolling at 15 of the state's public universities has been declining every year for the last seven years, mostly due to changing demographics and a decline in Michigan's overall population.

Eastern Michigan University spokesman Geoff Larcom says they're working hard to counter those trends at EMU.

"And that includes continuing to improve on its retention and graduation efforts and that’s being done through improved advising services," Larcom says.

Larcom says they're also renovating their facilities on campus and expanding their online course options to try to attract more students.
