Washtenaw County health officials have been working around the clock tracking the coronavirus in our community.
WEMU's Lisa Barry talks with county health officer Jimena Loveluck, who shares the latest information impacting residents.
In a unprecedented emergency situation, 53 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Michigan, seven of which in Washtenaw County.
Intially, coronavirus tests were only available through the CDC. Now, Jimena Loveluck informs residents that more tests are coming into Lansing and will be available to the public very soon. In fact, Loveluck expects "drive-up tests" to be available soon as well.
It's important to know that asymptomatic residents are still contagious. Once symptoms start showing, you must go into self-quarantine for 14 days.
Earlier today, Governor Gretchen Whitmerordered all bars, restaurants, and casinos closed until March 30. With that in mind, Loveluck recommends any large gatherings (business meetings, concerts, etc.) be postponed until further notice. Also, if at all possible, people should work from home.
