Washtenaw County officials say it's essential to expand broadband service in the county.
With all students in the county learning from home because of the coronavirus, the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners wants to expedite research on what areas of the county need the service expansion. Commissioner Jason Morgan says that, as part of a COVID-19 response effort, federal funding is expected to be approved for broadband expansion.
"So it's absolutely critical that we as a county are ready to get those funds and to start supporting our students immediately."
The county's broadband task force has identified Dexter and Webster Township as areas that need expanded service.
