The Washtenaw County Elections Department expects to see an increase in absentee voters for the August state primary election because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Director of Elections Ed Golembiewskisays his department wouldn’t be surprised if more than half of voters in the county vote absentee in August. He says the public health situation in July and August will impact the number of people who register to vote absentee. Golembiewski says voters have options when it comes to getting on a permanent absentee voting list.
"Can contact their city or township clerk either by phone or ether by email. And voters in the City of Ann Arbor can go to the Ann Arbor city website"
About thirty-eight thousand absentee ballots were issued in the county for the March presidential primary election. Nearly 118,000 people voted in that election.
