Saline Area Schools presented a diversity, equity, and inclusion strategic framework to its board of education. The goal is to address racism at the district after some of their students made racist comments against African Americans earlier this year.
Superintendent Scot Graden says the plan includes diversity training for teachers and staff. School officials will also learn how to react to racist incidents. Graden says an equity audit will also be conducted.
"So an equity audit really looks at your practices, your policies, and potentially even your staffing and different things to determine where are there gaps in terms of our organization"
The district will release the strategic framework to the public next week, and the goal is to get feedback from the community this summer before fully implementing their plan.
