Washtenaw County Expecting August Poll Worker Shortage

The Washtenaw County Elections Department says they could see a shortage of poll workers for the August state primary election due to the COVID-19 crisis.

People who usually sign up to work the polls are thinking twice about it because of health concerns.  Ed Golembiewski is the director of elections for the county and says senior citizens may be less inclined to work on election day since they’re considered to be a vulnerable population when it comes to COVID-19.

"We need to find poll workers that we can bring in to the system in the event that those that have been serving for a long time, choose not to"

Golembiewski says that. even if the health situation improves by August, they may consider using social distancing guidelines to protect poll workers and voters.
