Observing Memorial Day During COVID-19

Wiki Commons

COVID-19 will impact how veterans will be honored this year on Memorial Day in Washtenaw County.

Memorial Day parades in cities like Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, and Dexter have been canceled as a result of the pandemic.  But Larry Vollink, who usually organizes the parade in Ypsilanti, says residents can turn to social media to honor veterans.

Larry Vollink: Put the flag there and say pray for America and honor those what have given their lives to their country.

Vollink says sending emails and calling veterans on Memorial Day are other ways to honor them for their service.
