Ann Arbor YMCA Offering Free Tutoring For Middle School Students

Ann Arbor YMCA

With the help of local high school students, the Ann Arbor YMCA is offering virtual tutoring support during the pandemic.

The free virtual tutoring in math, reading and writing is available to all Washtenaw County middle school students.  The Y teamed up with A2tor, a tutoring service led by high school students, to offer the service twice a week through a program called Homework Circle.  Abbey Davis is the teen and volunteer director for the Y and says the program benefits students who are having difficulties learning through a crowded, virtual environment at school.

Abbey Davis: You start to lose voice when there are so many voices in the room. And you are less prone to actually raise your hand and ask that question.

The Homework Circle program limits study groups to about three students per tutor, for each session.  For more information on the program, click here.Non-commercial, fact based reporting is made possible by your financial support.  Make your donation to WEMU today to keep your community NPR station thriving.
