Saying he is hopeful movement is growing leading to real and sustainable change for the better, Washtenaw County Prosecutor-elect Eli Savit says he is bringing a variety of perspectives to the department when he takes over.

Among those working closely with the new prosecutor is someone who had actively demonstrated against the outgoing prosecutor, the founder and executive director of Survivors Speak, Trische' Duckworth.

She says she will be the voice of the people and to remind the prosecutor and those working for him as one of the people sitting at the table, reminding them that "the office belongs to the people and should be operated accordingly."

Savat says he is aware of the disparities in the criminal justice system and one of the first things he plans to do is establish an independent unit to investigate credible claims of wrongful convictions.
