UMMA Creates A Series Of Interactive Art Events To Help Cure The Winter Blues

Myra Klarman

From outdoor museum tours to indoor Zoom art creations, there will be a number of opportunities provided by what is being called "UMMA + Chill." WEMU's Lisa Barry talks with Mark Tucker, founder and creative director of FestiFools and FoolMoon, about what he will be doing as part of the University of Michigan Museum of Art event.

Ann Arbor artist and University of Michigan art professor Mark Tuckeris unleashing a new, online art-making workshop as part of the UMMA + Chill event this winter.  Those who participate will learn to make a ZooMoon Luminary Sculpture.  These illuminated sculptures are meant to light up your world!  The event will take place via Zoom, where you can meet new friends, get creative, laugh, and "let your inner artist beast roam free!"

Local filmmaker Donald Harrison will join Mark using a long lens to stay properly distanced during the pandemic to bring a different perspective and energy to the event.

Tucker says the online event might help people find their "creative center" during the ongoing global health crisis, which could lead to a new, exciting, and important way to creatively approach the world that becomes helpful for them, no matter what they end up doing.  He says "just getting out of bed is a creative act," which sends the message, "I think there is a future today.  I'm going to be part of that future."
