An effort to recall Ann Arbor Councilman Jeff Hayner will soon start gathering signatures.
Washtenaw County’s Election Commission recently determined the language used in the petition was “sufficient and factual” and voted 2-1 to allow the recall process to continue.
The recall petition’s author, Ariah Schugat, says they have the forms ready to go and plan to start collecting signatures on Saturday, May 22nd.
"We figured we would take a couple extra days to make sure all of our ducks are in a row,” Schugat says.
If it moves forward, the recall effort will need to gather the signatures of 2,264 registered voters living in the Ann Arbor’s 1st Ward by July 30th.
If that happens, a special election for Hayner’s seat would take place in November.
