Ypsilanti Teachers Reach Tentative Agreement

By Andrew Cluley

Ypsilanti, MI – Ypsilanti Public Schools and the union representing the district's teachers reached a tentative contract agreement today. The two year deal covers the upcoming school year, and retroactively the school year completed in June. Superintendent David Zuhlke says he expects the deal to be ratified by the Ypsilanti Education Association and the school board before the start of school on August 27th. Y-E-A president Kelly Powers says the changes made in the tentative agreement show the district and the teachers are begining to move in the right direction. Ypsilanti's teachers worked last year under provisions of an expired contract. The tentative contract agreement calls for fewer school days, but the same number of instructional hours. Other details are being withheld until they are given to the teachers.
