U of M Health System Names Interim Health System Chief

The University of Michigan Board of Regents has named former Emory University chancellor Dr. Michael M.E. Johns as interim chief of the school's health system. 

Johns will step in for the departing  Dr. Ora Peskovitz. Her contract expires June first and she has decided against seeking renewal or extension . Pescovitz was the first woman to serve as Director of the health system. She has served in that capacity for five years.

The regents approved the appointment Thursday at their meeting in Ann Arbor. The school says Johns will temporarily fill the posts of university Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs and Chief Executive of the University of Michigan Health System.
The system includes a 990-bed hospital complex and 40 clinical care locations, as well as the medical school with a 1,700-physician faculty group practice.
