The Ann Arbor School Board says goodbye to over 20 years of experience tonight.
After more than a dozen years, Glenn Nelson has retired from the school board, while Irene Patalan's service is over after a decade.
Nelson says the district faces greater financial stress now compared to when he was first elected due to state lawmakers making public education a lower priority. He says the board must work to keep SuperintendentJeaniceSwift. "One of our problems in Ann Arbor has been a rapid turnover of the superintendent and other top administrators," Nelson says.
Trustee Irene Patalan says technology is driving a lot of change, but the core mission remains teaching kids to be good citizens and do the best they can.
